Lisa Alley-Zarkades
Lisa Alley-Zarkades has reached that rare and splendid career point where she can focus her knowledge and skills on something she truly loves. She works for E.T. Horn Company, a leading distributor, supplier, marketer and manufacturer of specialty ingredient products, as vice president of the Animal Wellness Group.
“What I am doing now is so rewarding. I get to be around animals and talk about this topic that I love,” Alley-Zarkades said. “Think about all that animals do for humans: They give us companionship, provide services and teach us lessons about love. Animals are beautiful creatures, and I am happy to be able to do what I can to make their lives better.”
Her group specializes in science-supported raw materials and retail-ready products for animals including items such as docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), medicinal mushrooms and nutraceutical garlic.
Through out her career, Alley-Zarkades’ technical focus has been in starch chemistry.
Her role at E.T. Horn in animal wellness is one she created for herself. She had a fascination with animal nutrition and got the idea to sell products to pet owners. She investigated the possibilities, and researched and developed the opportunities.
Now, Alley-Zarkades is able to combine her knowledge of the industry, her experience at E.T. Horn and her love of animals.
Alley-Zarkades is a professional member of Institute of Food Technologists. She is an avid equestrian and animal rights advocate.
